WWC Timor-Leste looks forward to welcoming Sen. Collins and all the other speakers participating in Our Work Our Lives Conference, Sept. 1st and 2nd in Dili

Senator Jacinta Collins
Australian federal Parliamentary Secretary
for School Education and Workplace Relations

"I am pleased to be a keynote speaker at your conference and that it is being held in Dili, Timor-Leste. 'Our Work, Our Lives' is a great theme which speaks to all women who are doing their best to balance work responsibilities with home life and other priorities. For me it brings to mind the importance of women understanding and being able to exercise their rights and responsibilities, as well as the need to improve  the economic wellbeing of women. I look forward to highlighting the Australian Government's commitment to achieving a fair outcome for all women in the workplace and discussing the current equal pay case for social and community sector workers in Australia."

Working Women's Centre Timor-Leste

An exciting new initiative is taking hold in Timor, with the launch of the country’s first ever Working Women’s Centre planned for September 1st, 2011.

Working Women's Centre Timor-Leste will further the momentum for women's rights in Timor.

Beginnings
Thanks to ideas blossoming out of an APHEDA study tour, WWCs in SA, NT & QLD, with counterparts from the union movement in Timor-Leste, have ensured the idea of a WWC-TL is now supported by a range of progressive organisations and government ministers in both countries.

To celebrate, WWC Australia's annual conference, Our Work Our Lives, will be held in Dili to coincide with the launch of its Timorese sister organisation. WWC-TL will be lead by local women keen to see the organisation play a central role in Timorese civil society, providing information, support, advice and advocacy services to women on work-related issues.

Your Help

If you, your union or organisation is interested in contributing to the establishment and sustainability of the Working Women's Centre Timor-Leste, please get in touch with APHEDA's project officer for Timor, Tanya Karliychuk, on 1800 888 674 or tkarliychuk@apheda.org.au
